Kickers edge Charleston 1-0
RICHMOND, VA -- Rookie midfielder Clyde Simms of the Richmond Kickers tallied his first professional goal on Saturday night, and it turned out to be a crucial one, as the Kickers defeated rival Charleston Battery 1-0 at U of R Stadium in front of 2,734 happy fans.
Richmond is now 6-3-3 for 21 points and is resting nicely in the top half of the standings.
Minute-By-Minute Highlights
9th minute: Hayes crosses the ball about 25 yards out on the right side. Delicate is able to jump up over the Battery defender and gets a head on the ball, but it just misses the target.
28th minute: Aleksey Korol is able to slip the ball behind Pascale from the right side, but Kevin Knight comes flying in to the back post and is able to flick the ball off of the goal line for the save.
41st minute: A through ball is played through to Simmonds, who appeared offside to the Kickers defense, but Pascale is quick off of his line and slides for the ball just outside of the penalty box to clear it away for the save.
81st minute: Conway gets the ball near the end line of the left side, cuts back and breezes past the Kickers defender. He shoots near post, but Pascale is there for the save.
83rd minute: Joey Worthen obtains the ball about 40 yards away from the goal. With a burst of speed and open space in front of him, he closes down the distance in no time, and fires a shot from the top of the penalty box. Hudock is quick on his feet and is able to punch the ball wide for a corner.
87th minute: GOAL- Richmond: 1 Charleston: 0 McColm Cephas receives the ball off a deflection about 10 yards away from the goal on the left flank. He takes one touch to control, and plays it back on the ground to Clyde Simms who is running through down the center of the field. Simms fires one touch from the penalty spot and the ball flies past Hudock.
