TAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues announced the Teams of the Week for the second week of the USL season, honoring Charleston’s Gavin Glinton and Cincinnati’s Jeff Hughes as the Players of the Week.

Glinton helped lead the Charleston Battery to a 3-0 victory in their opener against the Virginia Beach Mariners by playing a part in all three goals, scoring twice.

Nine minutes in Glinton latched onto a loose ball 10 yards inside the Mariners half.  He outpaced his marker and as Mariners goalkeeper Matt Nelson approached, Glinton slotted the ball into the goal. He doubled Charleston’s lead in the 64th minute when winger Omar Daley weighted a pass between two defenders into Glinton’s path.  Nelson again came off his line to close the angle but was caught flat-footed as Glinton stroked the ball past him into the goal. Two minutes later it was 3-0 after Mariners defender Steve Danbusky scored an own-goal.  Glinton started the play with a ball down the left side-line to midfielder Chris Corcoran.  Corcoran hit a hard ball towards the back-post but it struck Danbusky on its way through and ricocheted into the goal.

The Bradley University product was drafted by Major League Soccer's LA Galaxy in 2002 before transferring to the Dallas Burn in 2003. His two-year totals include 44 games played with one goal and four assists. A native of Brentwood, CA, Glinton, 26, is a member of the Turks & Caicos Men's National Team. Glinton took a two-year break from pro soccer in 2004 and 2005 while serving as an assistant coach at Bradley University. Prior to turning pro Glinton had a standout season with the PDL’s Chicago Fire Premier in 2001, tallying 13 goals and two assists in 12 games

Cincinnati registered a surprising 2-0 win at Harrisburg courtesy of a two-goal outing from Hughes.

The Kings wasted no time getting on the board as Hughes scored in the 14th minute of the first half, whistling a free kick from 20 yards out passed Dave Kern. Hughes struck again in the 35th minute, controlling a feed from fellow midfielder Nowaf Jaman, working towards the top of the penalty area, and rolling a shot past Kern to make it 2-0.

In his first season with the club last year, Hughes played in all 20 games, registering two goals and two assists.
