2006 USL First Division Awards Finalists announced
Finalists for Defender, Rookie, Coach of the Year & Most Valuable Player unveiled
United Soccer Leagues announced Tuesday the Finalists for the Defender of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year and Most Valuable Player for the USL First Division 2006 season as voted on by the league’s coaches and general managers. The winners for the honors will be announced at the Championship Teams Banquet next week.

Gervais receives honor for fifth straight year
United Soccer Leagues announced Thursday the 2006 USL First Division All-League Teams, honoring 22 of the top players in the organization’s top flight as voted on by the league’s coaches and general managers. Montreal defender Gabriel Gervais joins an exclusive group of nine other players as the 10th individual to earn All-League honors in the USL First Division having been selected to the First Team for a fifth consecutive season.

Simmonds honored as first Player of the Week
 United Soccer Leagues announced Monday the first USL First Division Team of the Week for the 2006 season, honoring Virginia Beach Mariners forward Greg Simmonds as the Player of the Week. With his fifth club in eight years, the veteran USL-1 striker led the Mariners to a 2-0 season opening victory over the Toronto Lynx at home with a goal in each half. Simmonds scored the first 19 minutes in on a cross from midfielder Felix Brillant and the second off a cross from Ryan Mack in the 70th.
