Regional Cups
Over the years, a number of regional competitions have formed between rival teams and their fans.
In 2000, fans from three teams in the South debuted the Southern Derby, a heated rivalry that is now comprised of the Atlanta Silverbacks, Charleston Battery and Charlotte Eagles.
In 2002, the Canadian National Team fan organization known as the Voyageurs launched the Voyageurs Cup out of the lack of a "Canadian Open Cup" tournament, pitting the four A-League Canadian teams (Calgary Storm, Montreal Impact, Toronto Lynx and Vancouver Whitecaps) in a competition for the right to claim who is the best team in the nation.
The oldest of the regional competitions is the James River Cup between the Virginia Beach Mariners and Richmond Kickers, which started in 1996.
