CARY, NC -- The Carolina RailHawks announced today that Joey Worthen has signed a contract extension with the Carolina RailHawks. The deal will see Worthen wear his orange jersey through the 2008 season.
“It is exciting to be able to bring back a player of Joey’s caliber,” said Carolina RailHawks Head Coach Scott Schweitzer. “He is an intricate part of our team, possesses great leadership qualities and the ability to play in a couple of different roles. He’s a very hard worker and understands what we are trying to build here in North Carolina.”
Worthen was an integral part of the 2007 Inaugural Carolina RailHawks squad playing in 22 regular season matches tallying three goals and one assist, and in four US Open Cup Matches, recording one goal in 308 minutes. In addition Joey married his longtime girlfriend Natalie Hatch in Salt Lake City, UT on March 1st and will be joining the team right at the beginning of training camp on March 17th after his honeymoon.
“I am very excited to rejoin the Carolina RailHawks this season,” said Joey Worthen. “I look forward to continue what we started to build last season and fight for the USL-1 Championship, the US Open Cup and to retain the Southern Derby Cup.”
The Carolina RailHawks kick off their season in Atlanta on April 19th and will host their home opener at WakeMed Soccer Park on April 26th at 7:30 PM against the Charleston Battery.
